Just got spammed by English knights as the ottomans. Seemed like no matter how many spears, jannisaries, and springalds i had, it wasnt enough. One knight was worth 3 spears despite both me and my opponent having all late game upgrades. What is the counter to mass knight spam because i am clearly missing it.

Spears are terrible in the late game, other than trash / being fodder to keep more valuable units alive.
Best way to counter knight spam, is you joining the knight spam camp, and hope for the best and mix Xbows or gunpowder units into your army.
Springalds do miserably against cav.

and for Ottomans, jannissaries are ranged spearmen. they are like ♥♥♥♥♥♥ handgunners that are only good vs cav, So unless i'm wrong, spears are pointless.

Is there a hard counter for late game knights? Kinda figured spearmen should be able to hold up and if springalds cant do it then im not sure what can. Seems kinda lame

That I don't know. I just know handgunners hurt, and when janissaries shoot my cav I usually lose them all.

I know this doesn't apply to the ottomans but the french have some heavily armored xbows which should in theory be strong counters to knights. Line a few spearmen in front as fodder for good measure.

Springalds don’t do damage against knights, you have to go for spears and jannisaries, but you will loose if you are up against 100 knights with 60 spears and 40 jannisaries
Fight them in choke points or under keeps with boiling oil
Raid their eco so they are distracted don’t go in an open fight if you let the opponent amass a critical mass of knights

This game is not balanced at all. Knights can destroy fortifications.... how mounted on hourses i don't know.

All melee cav units except for elephants should not be able to attack any kind of walls. or forts in my opinion... it doesn't make sense.

it should attack maybe just a little like 1 damage.

Don't listen to them best counter to cavalry spam is mangonel + spearmen in Castle Age, or Ribadekin + spearmen in Empire Age.
