So I missed it in questionable ethics. Not sure why/how. I am VERY thorough and have been taking quite awhile to painstakingly explore every nook and cranny.

Somehow I missed the Tau cannon (wasn't aware of its existence) and when I read about it all I saw were people talking about how obvious and in your face it is there, but obviously that's not true because I'm quite observant and careful and I never saw or noticed anything there.

That said, everything says it's also obtainable at the supply depot (where you get the long fall boots) at the end of the lambda reactor.

I'm there.

I've run through the armory the guy opens up for me a dozen times. I see no Tau Cannon anywhere in this place.

Is the information online saying that the Tau cannon is obtainable in the supply depot literally just people lying?

There's no tau cannon in vanilla LC, and the only other spot you'll find one if you miss it in QE is the gonarch's lair chapter.
BMSC and some other projects do put it in LC's supply depot, ala HL1.

The Tau can be real easy to miss since the only way you'd get tipped off on it in-game is if you explore all the side passages in Questionable Ethics. If you go down the correct passage on the 2nd floor in the QE area, you'll overhear a local guard and scientist in a secret room. If you wait, the room will open and you can go in to get the Tau and to pay respects to the guard and scientist.

The guard's demise doubles a hint as to how you can get an achievement on Black Mesa. ;) Just remember to save your game first.

I went in that room actually. I overheard their chat, went inside, explored.

Later when i watched a playthrough to see where the gun was, I saw that it's a fairly small graphic that blends in with the floor.

So it's actually extremely easy to miss even if you went in the room, which I did.

I console cheated to give myself the tau cannon and then suited up and headed off to Xen which is amazing.

Despite most people regarding the Tau cannon as hard to miss, I believe it should be made even less missable. But I'm obviously in the minority in that opinion.

Ahh. Well I'm glad a really sharp gamer like me was able to teach you something you didn't know.
