i have never seen game design as hellbent on forcing a particular singular approach on the player. the part with the collapsing bridge has basically one solution and if you do anything other than what the game wants you to do, you die. the bat boss makes you guess how far its hitbox goes and does unreasonable damage. i can only imagine how it goes on from here. sure i could brute force my way through the game through rewind or trial and error.

but this is basically castlevania 1 with the bullsh*t meter cranked to 11. atleast castlevania 1 was reasonable.

i never particularely like the castlevania approach of: "spam 1 enemy until the scenario gets challanging but also absurd". but i do see a striking similiarity between dracula x and demon souls in that regard. with demon souls being the only soulslike game i didnt enjoy at all.

I love classic Castlevanias, but yeah, Dracula X is quite dissapointing, and yes, also the "unfairest", specially compared to Rondo of Blood wich I'd call the best and most balanced. Why it hasn't been included in any of both collections is beyond me. I own it on PS4, but I'd like to have all my castlevanias in one device.

Still, there's fun to be had with Dracula X, if you know the kind of game you're dealing with.

Never understood why this is even in this collection, but usually I wouldn't complain about a bonus. What I really don't understand is, if you include one of the SNES CV's, why the bad one? Super CV4 would have been a great bonus.

It was a quick cash grab, look when the game was released by then the SNES was on life support.
Next to rondo of blood is crap.

Rondo of Blood is much better. I had never played Dracula X before, but I played RoB in that PS4 collection with SotN and it was awesome. Especially playing as Maria.

This however... bleh. The hitboxes are so bad. Luckily there weren't that many achievements for it.

let me be clear about one thing: while i do not mind if games are being easy, i also do not mind hard games. its not about dracula X being hard whats bugging me. its the game design surrounding it. like for the bridge section you are heavily implied to spam the cross, and if you dont use the cross but the whip or jump at any time, you are basically screwed. that is not difficult. that is simon sais. and simon sais is not good gamedesign.

I can't speak for the US version, and I have not yet played any versions of this game, but when I played Vampire's Kiss last on SNES (PAL version), never once was i forced to use any subweapon to get past the bridge (I'm assuming you mean the start of Stage 2). However, your point still stands and I mostly agree in terms of enemy placements. One of the most frustrating parts I can remember, other than Dracula's second form, is the elevator section in the clockwork tower.

Back in the day game were designed like that with hard difficulty to improve time play. Games were significatly hardest but also less longer.

as i said, ive played castlevania for the nes and many other old games from the nes and super nintendo aswell.

i know that and why games where harder back in the day and why that is. doesnt make those games better NOW, when i am playing them.

You are right, but nothing is going to change. Best we can do is learn from the past and design better games.
