VRAM bug

Tried to play at 1060 3GB, the game says that you need about 5GB of video memory on all settings. How to fix?

Store page says minimum required hardware is a 1060 specifically with 6Gb. What makes you think a 3Gb card is going to suffice anyways? I would assume they specified the 6Gb model because the game needs at least 5Gb to run.

It's unoptimized and this ain't a bug.Game literally requires 6GB VRAM to run on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lowest settings.Tahts it.

Works fine on a GTX 960 with 4GB RAM.

RAM != video memory. (weird, exclamation marks look wrong as hell in the steam client.)

doesn't it show something like 6gb vram/4gb used in settings?which means it uses 2gb ram instead of vram because your gpu has 4gb

Ya, HW makers say I need a 750w PSU for a system that's pulling 500Ws at most. Game developers do the same thing, make ridiculous claims about HW when their knowledge is usually limited to SW. The reality is that it becomes true when the dev refuses to optimize the game, there's a leak, or a bug somewhere. They're more suggestions than reality.

OP, you don't need to fix it. Just ignore that message. Game will run fine assuming you tweak the settings for your GPU.

But I have incredible freezes with low FPS with frame drops on ultra low settings :feeling:

This is as it should be, your GPU has 2 times less VRAM than specified in the minimum requirements of the game. Game is designed for more or less modern GPUs, which even in the budget segment have 4 GB VRAM. Your GPU is outdated, buy at least GTX 1660 or RTX 3050.

Hi, Sorry, yeah i did mean 4GB Video RAM, not system RAM, system RAM is 16GB.
It shows in the options that its using all of it, but plays fine. It only warns on first start up.

Might help if I also mention i7 CPU, playing at 1900x1200 <- yes this is correct, thats my monitors slightly odd dimensions. Settings are on low, but yeah, plays totally fine.

plays fine on 4gb card?how much fps?on my 3gb card runs like crap on all settings although the difference is only 1gb
do you have 60+fps on everything low?because my gtx 1060 is generally bit more powerful than 970 without taking vram into account and it runs this game like ♥♥♥♥ at 40fps on lowest settings

Hi,
I am not sure what to tell you. I don't know exactly how many frames, but I can say its smooth for me and totally playable without issues. Would my config file help? It only moans if I go in to settings. My system is old now, but still perfectly happy.

Details from system are these:
GTX 960 (1024 CUDA, 1202Mhz Clock, 4GB GDDR5)
Intel I7-3770 @ 3.40Ghz
16GB RAM
2TB SSD

If it helps here is a link to the config and the other data i have collected from my system + a little clip with some game footage and the settings.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1HjsSr3Dllu0SIncs9axuGlRDk7rCLkSk?usp=sharing

FYI video was rendered at 1080p, which will make the video 1920x1080

Hope this helps to get you up and running.

Can't watch your video,it says access not allowed...thanks for sharing but this info doesn't really help. Many people say "runs fine no problems" while others confirm that optimization is trash. If you mentioned your framerate and ingame settings it would be more useful.because different people have different feeling of "smoothness".I mean e.g. 30fps can be smooth for you while I got used to 60fps and can't adapt to anything below 40 and therefore if a game shows 40fps on lowest possible settings on my kina "old" but far not potato pc I consider it unoptimized

I totally agree with everything you say, I wan't defending the game or saying its perfect. Just trying to help a guy play a game.

Config is in there and the video also shows settings.
If you need to know where it goes it goes in here C:\Users\*YourUsername*\Saved Games\Arkane Studios\Deathloop, please note i removed my ID from the config.

Watched it,thanks.I don't quite understand what do these numbers in config files mean but the video is pretty clear illustration of performance.I'm sorry but your game looks like slideshow to me. I think it's 30fps at best with frequent drops below 30.Feels kind of like this.My pc can run at 40-50 maximum at lowest graphics but still this is very bad optimization.I can run almost any AAA title on high preset with 40-60fps so this game is very poorly optimized.I just finished Tomb raider(2013) and have to say the graphics look very similar if not better in some places while also it runs at stable 60fps vsynced(up to 100 or even higher without vsync but as you understand I vsynced because my screen has 60hz refresh rate) with everything on maximum. Can say the same about Prey(2017) which is by the way from the same Arkane studio but made on cryengine(deathloop is on Arkane's own engine). So maybe the engine has trash optimization and devs can't fix the game because of that?I have no idea but it's fact that deathloop has EXTREMELY bad optimization for an indie game with mediocre graphics.Hell even Red dead 2 runs at 40-60fps on medium-high settings and you know it's considered to have the best graphics ever created(I personally don't think so but...well never mind).
So to compare performance of deathloop to well known AAA games on my gtx 1060:
-rdr2 40-60fps
-control 40-60+fps(highest settings)
-far cry 5 60+(highest)
-far cry 6 40-50fps(highest)
-prey 100+-fps
-tomb raider(2013) 60-100fps(highest) (ye it's old game but has beautiful and detailed graphics)
-ark survival evolved(considered to have trash optimization) 30-50fps(highest)
-horizon zero dawn 35-60fps(highest)(considered to have trash optimization, bad port from console)(actually graphics look amazing and detailed in this game, very beautiful lighting effects)
-cyberpunk 2077 35-50fps (low settings)(everyone says it has trash optimization and rtx cards struggle to run it in higher than 1080p resolution)
-etc...
DEATHLOOP:
-40fps lowest settings,5.2gb VRAM/3gb VRAM(seriously 5.2 gb on "very low" textures?)
Game has to be fixed.
