DEATHLOOP is Way Better Than Dishonored...

I love both games of course. But DEATHLOOP is like Dishonored refined. Dialogue is actually humorous, and lively. Not that always depressive bleak tone between Corvo and Emily. I like Colt and Julianna, the assassin protagonists, better because they're having fun with it.

Level design is fantastic in DEATHLOOP. Aside from the TimeSlip one in Dishonored 2, the little nooks and crannies of Fristad Rock or Updaam are tighter and more purely expressed.

The color palette in DEATHLOOP is amazing as well and better than Dishonored. DEATHLOOP's OST is better too. And the multi is very fun too (when it works, of course).

Thoughts? :Dr_Wenjie_Evans:

Opposite thoughts, i like it, but it's nothing special. Alright 7 out 10 game.

Deathloop is most repetitive game from Arkane. Reliving one day is cool concept on paper and it work great for movies but for 16 hours long game, it doesn't. Jumping back and forth between 4 locations becomes boring over time, maybe it would work better if locations were procedural generated or if you wasn't restricted accessing certain areas until story progression allows it. Talking about story, it is intriguing but somehow main quest feels like side quests from Prey, with text notes and searching for codes, no unique situations or memorable voiced characters, visionaries are just flat plot devices. Only banter between Colt and Julianna somehow entertaining.

This must be more linear game then Dark Messiah, you don't have choice in which order take out visionaries, game handhold you all the time, and there is only one propper order of events.

What about enemy variety? there is none, you have masked humans, rare masked humans that explode and 8 unmasked humans who play role of bosses. What about AI? you can easily exploit them, they run in walls, they don't see you unless you stand right in front of them.

Stealth is pointless, zero consequences for killing everything in sight since next day will repeat itself, there is no benefits to play silent, much easier to alert these dummies and wait for them at choke point.

Almost finished game on gamepass and i highly doubt i'm come back to it after.

Oh, you're one of those guys. You completely disregard the grinding, exploration and freedom of approach and call it "non linear" because of "choices". Linearity isnt entirely based on "making story choices" and anyone who thinks that needs to learn a thing or two about game design. I have over 80 hours in DEATHLOOP and still havent beaten the story. I'd say that makes it quite non linear. It is essentially a sandbox game and it is masterfully designed. cope

I think you're right. DEATHLOOP is a non-linear narrative where the player attempts to create a linear experience. From what I've gathered about the story, Colt literally has to create a linear timeline. So the devs create this 4d puzzle box, with multiple story beats and then get the player to create a linear experience through the otherwise disjointed set pieces. It is miles ahead of Dishonored 1,2 because those games are based on a linear narrative structure.

And DEATHLOOP has very cool guns and unique personalities.

I am not even close to completion and am loving the intricacies of the gameplay. It is very fun. So many little details.

It is indeed the better game. It's like dishonored, but this time you are finally allowed to use your powers and guns.
- Got caught while infiltrating a hideout? Plan B, kill em all.
- Backup arrives and it spirals out of control? Teleport around like a madman and backstab them.
- They overwhelmed and killed you? Just retry tomorrow with refined tactics.
- You missed to explore a hidden room in the basement? Just do it tomorrow.

Dishonored kind of discouraged use of the tools you got with the forced morale and bad ending stuff.
"Here's all kinds of guns and cool magic, but don't kill or alert anyone, ok?"
Also, Dishonored linear map design was detrimental, as you knew the target is clearly behind the gate to the left, but if you do not divert deeply into the dead end to the right now, that powerup at the end of it will be lost forever.

All solved by a simple "your consequences will be forgottten tomorrow/this very morning" haha

Maybe Dishonored is a product of its time, I don't know. But the more laid back atmosphere of Deathloop really helps it out as well.

There's no coherent story in Deathloop, it's too abstract and weird compared to the infinitely more relatable Dishonored despite both being set in totally fictional worlds. Same with lore, Dishonored is one of the few titles I pause the level to take in a book or note. I could name all the Dishonored villains for a decade, I forgot all the visionaries a day after my first playthrough.

Dishonored's art style is beautiful, Deathloop is just a fun fair / shooting gallery with manequins.

No level in Deathloop can hold a candle to Light at the End, Crack in the Slab, Clockwork Mansion, or Return to the Tower. The infinite creativity possible, how you can play Dishonored a dozen times and still find new areas or tricks.

Saved games in Dishonored - you experiment, learn and get gud. In Deathloop you can't change your loadout mid level, have only 2 powers on hand and real world pressures mean you play carefully so you don't have to restart the level if interrupted.

I like dishonored or prey more because there was almost always several ways to get into a room finding a secret entrance or using a skill as opposed to deathlooo where you just have to find a code which is in a specific olace and nowhere else.

Translation... I can't follow the story.
The movie Twelve monkeys must have been completely lost on you also, fightclub must have been, lets not even get into the highlander or terminator trilogies cause that's just gonna go over your head. Don't bother with Knives out, or the sequel, Glass onion. If you can't follow a story that goes back and forth in time, this game was never intended for you anyway.

The story is coherent and well put together, it's just a mind bender that you couldn't follow with a short attention span... Actually i can't even blame a short attention span, cause the game is pretty short anyway...

"Dialogue is actually humorous"

Well if you ever gathered for whiskey and cigars you would know that Dishonored is full of humour.

i've played both Dishonored games. Humor was scant. In fact, Dishonored is not funny at all.

I think Dishonored at least feels like a full game with a more fleshed out narrative. Deathloop feels rushed to me, the story doesn't go anywhere and leaves the player with more questions than answers.

If we're being realistic the game is 4 maps chopped up with unplayable multiplayer added on. I would have much preferred more maps and possibly a more meaningful player perspective from Julianna, what we're given though is a pointless multiplayer feature that doesn't even work properly.

That is my main gripe against Deathloop- multiplayer is to heavily focused upon while the maps(and things to do in each map) suffer as a result. We see gates blocking off each zones, so it would be nice if we could open those and explore the island in full. Who knows? Maybe we will get a dlc adding more content.

I would not expect anything until after Redfall through.
