The game doesn't seem to really get started until you learn about infusing things, and the task that teaches you about this is "infuse a slab". Yet, only 51% of players have got this far! Does this sound very low? Are half of all players dropping out so early on, or struggling to know what to do next?

I doubt anyone is struggling to know what to do next with the amount of hand-holding up to that point, lol.

It's very normal for a lot of players to only have the first few achievements. Drop-off after the first two-three hours or so tends to be steep.

Can you give any comparisons to any other AAA games?

Death stranding for example got a 6.8/10 on IGN.
Chiral crystals only appear after about 3-5 (up. To 7 if you explore) hours in, yet 61.5% of players have recycled them and gotten the achievement.


Or for a closer to the 10/10 "As close to a masterpiece as a game can be" score dark souls got 9.5 I think and 64% of players beat Vordt. Which is at about the 3 hour mark.

So it would appear that even less people are playing past the tutorial section of Deathloop than in two other AAA games. There could be multiple reasons for this, the other two examples are older and may have been revisited yet I don't think Deathloop deserves the 10/10 it got.

Speaking of IGN, it's interesting that the devs are spending more time there fawning over the 20 minute speedrun rather than being here addressing the lag problem that there are usually at least 5 threads on the front page about.

No, because comparing exact percentages between games has a ton of confounding factors. Main point is that it is really common for percentages to go from 90-95% on the first or first two-three achievements to like 50-60 just a little further in the game. Holds true for most games.

I don't know why you would care so much about IGN grades, they're pretty ♥♥♥♥♥.

The starting narrative here is wrong! When you get initially taught about infusion you don't have any infusable slabs. You're introduced mainly to infusing weapons.

And about 65% get to that point. A modest dropoff from 'can infuse at all' to 'captured and infused a slab too' is pretty unremarkable.

I have infusion and don't have a slab that I can infuse yet at about 8hrs in. To be fair I do take my time to search areas really thoroughly for Residuum and also kill everybody

You can get and infuse a slab in the first phase of the first day after finishing The Longest Day, but only if you beat an invasion or pick a location where there is a huntable Visionary at dawn.

Yeah, I went back to the Complex to do the quest with the power generators, but I'm going to Updaam next and there will be a visionary there so I'll have an opportunity to get one at that point.

Uh, how? You'd have to clear all the The Longest Day content in something like 10 minutes per level.

You can get a slab to infuse very quickly. But I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of players got murdered by the first human controlled Julianna they encountered and spent some time avoiding visionaries after that.

Considering the speedrun is a 20 minutes (though it involves plot skips) just running to infuse the first slab in an hour or an hour and a half is within the realm of possibility if no exploration was done.
