Loading Tunes

As far as I can tell I'm on the most recent update, but I'm still getting the "loading tunes" screen after the FakeDos loading screen. -skip-dos doesn't work either. Anyone else having this problem?

Are you on the beta? I recall reading that this change was made only for the stable version of the game.

I think we might have forgotten to push out a Linux build of the patch. I'll follow this up internally and report back once I have more info. If you want to confirm that on your end, you could try running the game via Proton and see if -skip-dos works.

Edit: It appears we did push out the patch for Linux, so something else must be going on here.

I'll try using Proton and report back with results.

Actually it appears I was mistaken. The Linux build was indeed not pushed out to Steam (the presence of Assembly-UnityScript.dll gave that away, since we removed all UnityScript code in the 2020 update). We'll get that fixed up ASAP and let you know once it's out.

This is still not working for me. Like OP I'm also on Pop OS (21.10) and the game just gets stuck when "loading tunes".
Until now I did the following:

- download and start the default version of the game,
- change to the "SDK" version in Properties --> Beta,
- change to the "Mac / Linux testing" version in Properties --> Beta.

None of this works. The only thing left to try is run this through Proton, but that feels like defeat when there is a native version out there.

Here's an excerpt from the log. It looks like a shared library is missing on my system. I'll try to debug this a bit more when I find the time:

I fixed this by starting Steam from the Terminal with the following env variable setting:

LD_PRELOAD="" steam

I found this as a solution to a similar issue in this post.

This looks like a Steam issue to me. I hope this may help somebody else in the future.

----

Aaaaargs. For whatever reason this booted me into the game exactly once. After quiting the game and trying to restart it I'm stuck again at "loading tunes". Restarting Steam didn't help so far. I'll try this again tomorrow after restarting the PC.

----

Final comment for now: I've restarted Steam again (without rebooting the entire PC) and the game worked again. It looks a bit random, but at least I can finally enjoy this great game.
