Homecoming Bug

I think I saw someone else mention this in a thread, but I think there's a bug in the Homecoming level. Once the gravity is flipped and I drop through that barn-window, I fly across the level to the other side, but have no way of controlling my movement. After that, I end up flying off the other end of the map and get stuck in an endless loop of flying from one side to the other. The odd few times I've landed on a big rock, there's no way of being able to go around it like you can with the scythes, leaving me no choice but to walk off the edge and repeat the whole thing again of being stuck in an endless loop.

What the heck is the trick with this? I don't recall having issues the first time I played it. I remember it being really trippy, but I don't recall ever getting stuck like this. :-\

Not a bug, you have full air control so you can always navigate back to the area you need to be, all you have to do is find the next gravity flip switch, which depending on the level's orientation, will change. When you flip with the barn though, you should drop through the window, and land on the side of the house, from there you enter the window and open the red key door inside.

I can never seem to be able to. I try to aim for that house, but I literally go right over it every time I try. After that, I'm just stuck flying across the level. I can turn the camera, but I don't seem to be able to influence how high/low I am or what direction I'm going in. :(

It looks like you werent pressing backwards at all, which wouldve allowed you to hit the house on your first pass down, then as you try to look towards the house after missing it you end up flipping yourself upside down, which inverts your controls, and make sit harder for you to understand the way you are moving. What i would suggest is disabling the vertical flipping in the options menu, and trying again. Unfortunately, this is just a matter of controlling your character, and just needs to be overcome by steering towards the house.

You see, this is why AAA games became corridors with huge on-screen arrows that say GO HERE or FLIP THIS SWITCH BRO.

I get breaking from the AAA norms when it comes to controls etc., but game design is equally important and things need to be clear to the player. I can't say that section is very clear and causes confusion. I've already read some players having problems with this section.

Based on 500_pts suggestion, I'll have another go later and see how I fare.

It IS clear. A better question is how did you went that far into the game without realizing the level of air control you have with how vertical this game is.

It isn't clear. there aren't many sections in the game where you can turn the world/gravity upside down. I seem to recall one other such case earlier on. and there was nothing I can remember about the game teaching me about the level of air control. every other level uses those air chute-thingies that catapult you upwards.

Never jumped down from some high place and repositioned yourself as you fall?
Maybe I play too many first person shooters, but it's always felt very natural to me.

All the time. But once the gravity is flipped and I fall through that window, I don’t seem to be able to control myself as I fall. I can only turn the camera. I’ll try 500_pts’s suggestion of disabling vertical flipping in the options, but as it is, it just feels like a vacuum sucking me in one fixed direction only. It feels like all movement control is locked. I try moving/strafing left and right, like in the video I linked, but don’t move in those directions.

Yeah, I would definitely turn off vertical flipping. Still, even with that on, based on the direction you're falling, you can right yourself, and at that point the controls should work as normal again. Do keep in mind your terminal velocity is MUCH higher than your movement speed, so it may take a while to get where you want to be.

Nope... nope... Apologies. It's just me being dumb as usual. >_< I've only just noticed that if you hold one of the direction keys, you do move in that direction. And that's with or without the Vertical Flipping disabled. That test was done on my laptop, so whether there was an issue on PC where the direction keys weren't responding, I'm not sure.
