Feedback on my Escape Room

Hi guys, I've made an escape room for people to try, would love some feedback and any bugs/glitches/getting stuck you notice, I appreciate it a lot!

The most serious problem I encountered was the bookshelf you can slide out before it knocks over the wall divider trapping me inside it when I pulled it from the front. It's also a very narrow area. Maybe trigger the fall immediately and replace the bookshelf with a collision free version?

In general, I felt that a lot of things that could have been made static weren't, although it was nice how it seemed like only the important items were pickable.

The spotlight, and coin pouch placement guiding you to the important locations were nice touches for the main room. Not a fan of the bolt removal on the exterior wall not working because my character apparently had some random morality about his method of escape or something?

There also seems to be a preoccupation with fire in the puzzles, which is annoying since it seems like there should be many ways to accomplish the same thing. and one of the random candles on the bookshelf that collapses is pickable.

I never got into the fifth room, which should give you an idea of how far I progressed. I found it fairly difficult, but maybe I just missed a key in all the noise.

Thank you for all your feedback on my room. A couple of the issues you mentioned I have fixed in an update so you may have played on an older version.

I have replaced the bookshelf that falls with a collision free version to prevent being stuck.

I’ve also made almost all the Draggable items static to make it less cluttered.

I’m not sure what I know which puzzle you’re talking about with the bolt removal, would you be able to provide more details?

Thank you for bring my attention to the lockable candle. Fire and electric are the only animations currently in the game maker so that’s probably why it felt there were a few that included them. And I would love to make puzzles solvable in many different ways but the amount of extra work to do so and possible bugs it can cause doesn’t make it worth it in my opinion.

Thank you again for your honest feedback, I’ll definitely help me improve on the room.

Yeah, I would think that when I subscribed it pushed me the latest version, but who knows.

there are a set of three bolts in the main room holding up a plank, I believe they are near the bar? Not sure about the details since I haven't gotten to the part of the level where they are relevant Anyway, when removing the bolts with the bolt remover, I got a message about not wanting to destroy the building for no reason or something. I assume it's a forced sequencing thing (I needed to do something else first) which I found annoying since its exploring focused, and I also felt like it was an exterior wall, so, it seemed like something my character had motivation to do, wanting to leave and all.

Yeah, I just meant that there are a number of puzzles where the goal is to set something on fire, and the crate can be taken to an already existing burning candle, or even the fireball spell. The point is that by making the goal repeatedly be set something on fire, because you end up having access to a bunch of things that can set things on fire, so it's frustrating from a story perspective. I'm just saying you can use other goals or a different story abstraction (like bringing someone the materials so they can open the crate, and it turns out that's their method.)

oh and it's probably not something that most people are going to be encountering, but when trying to speedrun part of the room, I seem to have managed to trap myself by triggering the grave to open while on the left side XD.

Ahh I gotcha now, I may need to reword it a bit. It was meant to be just a bit of wood that holds the bar door open hence dismantling it wouldn't accomplish anything.

That's a fair point, I actually didn't even link the crate and candle being on fire since I usually solve rooms one at a time. Thanks for the insight though, it's given me a few ideas to improve on the room. And the fireball not working is sorta a hindsight thing, since I was making room by room in number order and incorporating a new element to an existing puzzle requires a lot of extra work. But I've definitely learnt it pays off to have things planned out so you can interact in more unique ways

Thanks for letting me know, I'll see what I can do about it.
