This game literally gives you over a dozen debuff spells and I've used maybe two of them the whole game. Most enemies are either immune, or just attacking them is simply always the better option. I don't even use party buffs that much either. Even in more difficult games like FFVI and FFVII I didn't use debuffs all that much.

I agree. Never used any status stuff, not even Haste in the base FF4.
However, due to this, After Years was sheer utter hell for me, because you NEED Haste and Slow in almost every fight, especially boss fights. Dirty trick... >:(

I'm talking specifically about old school Final Fantasy games. I'm aware of how important they are in more modern titles.

There's no point in debuffs when you can kill an enemy a turn faster without them. To be more serious I honestly never use them unless I'm fighting a real nasty enemy. In which case it'd have to be a more modern FF game like FF XII on a hard hunt or something. Status magic is a joke for the most part. Except for maybe Silence when it works.
