The DS version brought a 3D world with new features such as augments, auto-battles, voiced cutscenes, high difficulty mode, 2 optional super bosses, etc.

What exactly does this offer exactly compared to the DS and GBA versions?

The only really great thing about the pixel remasters are the soundtracks,

Everything else is sub-par, from the difficulties being downgraded to painfully easy, to pointless, gamebreaking stuff like adding minimaps and chest checklists and autosaves ruining the experience, to whole secondary campaigns being cut out.

Better graphics (imo), better music score.

It's personal taste, but I couldn't stand the 3d graphics in the last remake, though that was the Steam version.

Eh... The fact that I am a grown ass adult now with enough disposable income to throw it at a game that made me very happy almost 30 years ago is good enough for me.

It's not a remake for starters. It's a remaster of the original version. To put it plainly it has better graphics, and an amazing soundtrack.

That doesn't answer why you don't consider the PR version of FFIV to be a remaster.

Again, not an answer other than saying "This Pixel Remaster version of FFIV is not actually a remaster because I say it isn't."

A remaster by definition uses the same graphics as the original, just made better. This game doesn't. Hell if anything it's closer to a remaster of the GBA one (though it's not that either).

I hope whoever on Square's marketing team that came up with the term "Pixel Remaster" got a fat bonus because it's amazing how well it hooked people in despite not actually meaning anything.

It's literally remastering the old pixel graphic style of the original to better suit today's modern monitors and resolutions, ya walnut.

Just because they aren't a complete carbon copy of the original, doesn't mean its not classified as a 'remaster'
