Boring??

I don't know if its just me because I've played a few other similar Sony/console "RPG" games lately (Days Gone, RDR2) but I just cannot get into Horizon in any way. Nothing is pulling me in.. the story, the gameplay, the characters, skills, loot, items all bore me and it all seems quite cliché.
It feels like a Far Cry game but without the fun..

Anyone else feel the same?

Every game is every game these days. So you should be used to that. You shouldn't expect everything to be unique or new. Perhaps nothing will be new, except the combinations of elements. That's life and can be said about just any game these days. They all blur together, at least in ways.

If you don't like anything it's ok, just move on. Maybe you'll get bored one day and give it another spin with a different view. If it's a bore and not fun, its a bore and not fun. Not sure why you need validation from others. I guess you'd form a group and become outcast together, and go on an exile trip. I dunno.

But for me, its fun enough. I don't love most of the characters, I don't need to. I never do these days. I'm old, jaded, and played too many games at this point. But I can find enjoyable things that make the playtime worth it. I'm enjoying the visuals, the ranged combat, the sense of exploration and a lot of smaller details and moments.

I'm sure many people find it fun, but I'm sure there is a small group of people that also only see this game as a cliche' far cry game without the fun. But once you have found those people, what are your plans?

Hahaha ♥♥♥♥♥ hell you can't have an opinion anymore without offending someone can you? Not everything is upto individual taste. Some things just really are boring. I agree that every game feels the same these days though!
But I don't need validation thanks. I just genuinely want to know if anyone felt the same and whether or not it gets better. I am only level 15 and I see a huge map left to explore but so far it feels like everything ahead will be more of the same.

I felt the same about Skyrim, The Witcher 3, etc... It's not against the law to not like a game that's highly regarded. In fact, most games don't draw me in, I'm super fussy with games.

Offended? Did you use the wrong quote?

For me it was the opposite, and I regret having had this on my wishlist for nearly 2 years instead of hopping right in.

I was immediately drawn in with the introduction, but the idea of ancient ruins of civilization are the most powerful bait in the world to me. I just love lost civilizations, and for there to be a tech civilization, even better.

I can see where you're coming from though. I suspect if the ruins were just stone ruins of some primitive culture, and all the robos were replaced with monsters or even dinos, I probably would have gotten bored of the game within the first hour, as it would just feel like any other generic openworld rpg out there.

It really does come down to what draws each individual in with each individual part that can create a whole for someone. I find the story fascinating, and the more I go through the main questline, the more I have to keep going to see what all of this means. Aloys origins, and oh boy, the burning question of what's behind that door, i'm going to carry around for quite some time to come. #nospoilers

I played a lot of open world games and if there wouldn't be this interesting setting, then I wouldn't play it anymore. For me it is at times boring, because it is like classic Ubisoft game filled with collectibles, boring side quests and other things, which aren't fun for me. At times it is really slog to get through something. But then again, I like this post-apo world filled with machines reminiscent of dinosaurs. Primitive tribes clashing with technology beyond their understanding is something unique in games, so at least this is for me interesting and holds me in this game. But yes, after almost 20 hours I can say it is a lot of times boring (and I hope even main quests get better, because for now it is one cliche after another).

Yeah, I suppose FarCry has a better rehearsed formula. This game is mostly what you make of it. Rampage or open world exploration? Speed run or side missions, challenges and collectables? I kinda like the worldbuilding and don't mind most of the errand distractions.

You hit the nail on the head I think.. its a very typical Ubisoft type of game and I think once you've played one you've played them all. So there is that in my mind making me feel like meh.. been here done this x 100.
I do like the theme and story but just think its been done by the wrong company! Their style only works if its non-stop fun and carnage. They fail at the RPG elements big time. Which is crazy because they do all the hard work of making large beautiful maps and then fill it with absolutely nothing but boring stupid side quests that lead to boring rewards. Mixing in the overly simplistic crafting system where you can pretty much make any potion/weapon/ammo out of the same repetitive handful of ingredients. And this game seems to have followed suit.

I really love the ancient ruins thing and the tribes who have forgotten the old times. Great story but maybe you've not played as many RPG's or Ubisoft style games as me and it was completely fresh for you? For me it just feels like far too little new and far too much that I've done before.

Or maybe you've played too many and just gloss over the subtle details thinking, "I've done this a hundred times".
Games are what you make of them. They're like books - remember those? You get out of it what you put into it.
RPG. Role Playing Game. Are you doing that? Or are you just running through looking for the next machine or person to shoot, passively participating, waiting for the game to amaze you?

As an example - and I will avoid spoilers - Aloy needs to go around and talk with members of all the known tribes. Which outfit should she wear? If you are roleplaying, that matters. If you're not, why are you playing an RPG?

That doesn't matter at all, what's the point of creating these silly scenarios when it won't have any impact on the game? This is just a ubisoft game that looks pretty, and it's sequel seems to be even worse
This game is not a rpg, having a skilltree and numbers popping off is not what makes one

yes, it is ubisoft like game
you can play such games few times, but at some point all this vacuum cleaning of ctrl-c ctrl-v activities becomes unbearably boring
still, game has nice combat and scenery

You say it's not, but every description I ever read of it says something similar to this:

"Horizon Zero Dawn is a 2017 action role-playing game developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment."

But I'm sure you're right, and the gaming industry has it wrong.

HZD did remind me of Ubisofts open world formula in some ways, and yeah the dialogue can drag on at times, and the crafting/looting is quite clumsy. Although personally I found it more interesting than what Ubisoft have done in recent times, particularly in terms of it's art style and themes. I can understand how some would enjoy them, but personally I find Ubisoft's idea of 'fun' just kinda gimmicky and annoying and wish they would just stop and make more serious tactical espionage military thriller type games like the old Splinter Cell games for instance. Man, I miss those games.

Rate Horizon Zero Dawn
