Will there be a performance patch?
Or the game will run like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ forever?
To clarify:this trash runs at 10-20fps while AAA games like RDR2,Control,Far cry 5,etc 40-60+fps(all on maximum graphics of course)

I am more hoping for fixes like memory leaks when the forest is on fire.

So it's supposed to look like a 15 years old game and run at 30-40fps on "medium" settings?LOL

Every game looks like from 1980 if you turn down details to the levels you did....

Sepfox replied to Will there be a performance patch? January 23, 2022 @ 7:57:48 am PSTI would really love the game to get some more multhreading aswell. As it is right now, FPS drops quite deep in longer multiplayer sessions, with one cpu core maxed out and the other ones barely being under half load. the GPU usage drops to 40-60% aswell. and looking at my testing, it's definetly CPU related.
I personally hope that the devs are able to thread it a bit better, and on the other hand time will bring us faster single-core performance CPU's. The 12th gen CPU's from intel are a good first step.
EDIT: This appears to affect multiplayer more than singleplayer, and seems to occur over time, as there's more things (like mined veins and cut trees) to be processed on the CPU. one way to get to that point really fast is having a bigger forest fire.

Yes. nice to hear it's not only me that feel the game performance is getting worse over time. Not sure what that is about.
The thing is that the host is both a server and a client in this game. No game I have played in like 10 years work like this.
But I do feel like it's less laggy now. So I do feel improvments have been made.

This discussions, as the game itself, is being left with only this kind of people, the rest is getting expelled as no one cares
Just move on to a game with developers that actually listen to the community and not only the “all is good” gang

magnus replied to Will there be a performance patch? January 24, 2022 @ 5:21:53 am PSTThe game need work in the graghics department for sure. Performance I feel is okay but can be better. For me it's more the visuals that need work. Shadows in particular need work.

I mean to be fair, it all depends on one individual's specs. most people look at the GPU as the problem, which, at least in Icarus, assuming you have any midrange card of this or last generation, is not really the issue for low FPS.
As I said, CPU load is the problem, or more specifically, how it's distributed across the cores. This is also a common problem with video games, and it's the reason why high-end gaming PC's don't use 64-core server or workstation cpu's for gaming.
To be fair to the peolpe around here, A lot of system builders (either the people themselves or the OEM) focus most of the budget on the GPU, this is good in most games, but cheaping out on the CPU a bit too much will definetly show it's drawbacks, *especially strong* in Icarus.
The devs need to work a bit on multhreading, this however is not a easy task and will likely take some time. Faster CPU's will come with time aswell, and looking at the situation in the market there's a lot that seems to be worth the wait thanks to competition.
As it is right now, I'm sure they're aware that there's spare GPU ressources that could be utilized by better/more graphics. If they didn't think about it, they wouldn't have gone for raytracing support.

magnus replied to Will there be a performance patch? January 24, 2022 @ 7:27:04 am PSTYes. Does not matter what GPU you have in this game. It will stutter no matter what computer you run. There is something mainly when running more then one player that makes the game run bad. But I do fell it's better now then before.
Ray tracing could be good in this game. If they made DX12 work.

No, they are never going to optimize the game ever again. Is that the answer you are looking for? Of course they are working on optimization... It is a slow process that takes time.

sknightly replied to Will there be a performance patch? January 24, 2022 @ 1:40:16 pm PSTA "performance patch" is a hard thing to define. Will one mega-patch automatically boost FPS for every player? No, that's not likely and not how gamedev works.
Having said that, we've already made 5-6 patches with performance improvements in them. These include optimizations to LODs, AMD specific-support, adding new graphics settings, fur rendering, improved terrain rendering, shadows and foliage optimization. Some server upgrades have improved performance too.
However, these won't magically boost every player's PC so we haven't publicized a mega performance patch. We haven't wanted to mislead people by over-promising that all performance is now 2x faster no matter what PC you have.
We did a lot (a lot!) of optimization during our Beta Weekends. We also pushed the Icarus' graphics limits too and announced reasonably high recommended specs for the game.
One of the frustrating things for us devs (as well as players) is that many players report fine performance, while others with the same graphics card report issues.
We are constantly optimizing Icarus and have been in our weekly updates. Rather than a big bang, it will be a constant series of improvements, which is what we are doing with our weekly updates (they're not all content-related).
