Huge FPS drop at around 2000 points

At some point in the game, usually around 2000 points, my fps drops from perfect to like 5-10. There's quite a lot of cars around at that point..

My laptop is not great for gaming to be honest. Can I do anything to improve performance? I've turned off anti-aliasing. I suppose I can use a smaller resolution than 1920x1080 (native), but ideally I'd like to keep this resolution.

I genuinely have no idea why you're having issues - my setup is worse than yours, yet I'm having zero performance drops (I haven't gone past 2300,but still),maybe a software issue somewhere along the line?

I kept Task Manager up while playing and got some more information (side-by-side screenshots attached below). When idling in the menu I was at 60 FPS, 20% CPU, 64% memory (memory never spiked or changed throughout the game session) and 27% GPU. Was told power usage was at "Very high" throughout the game session even while idle in the menu. I have issues with the battery but I'm using a power cable so don't think it's an issue.

The first drop in FPS was at roughly 1350 points (I played Mexico) where I dropped to around 18 FPS. CPU was up to 56% and GPU up to 63%.

At 1550 points I was down to <10 FPS with CPU at around the same level 50% but GPU up to 70%.

At 2000 points the FPS was the same as at 1550, this was also reflected in the CPU and GPU usage and they were was also the same.

Honestly I think it's the GPU, it's pretty bad. Although it was never at 100%, not sure why that is, but perhaps it's a good thing so the card doesn't fry. I had MSI Afterburner running but not sure what kind of effect it has if any, not sure the thing works.

Update:)
Using Geforce Performance Overlay I saw these numbers when starting a new game (can't play to 1300+ points right now).
FPS: 59
99% FPS: 53
Render latency: 4.1 ms
CPU Utilisation: 12%
GPU Utilisation: 40%
GPU Clock: 796 MHz
Memory clock: 800 MHz

Idle in menu[ibb.co]
First drop in FPS at ~1350 points[ibb.co]
By 1550 points FPS is at <10 [ibb.co]
FPS seems to be consistently low even at 2000 points [ibb.co]

I had issues with fps on my first playthrough of the game. I played maybe 3 or 4 hours straight and played through all the maps, with usually less than 1000 scores, not leaving my game in between and experiencing frame drops.
These last days, I launch the game, play the daily challenge and try to improve on one map, going between 3000 and 5000 without any problem.

So I think you would want to quit the game and launch it again after you played on a few different maps.
If you have fps issues on your first game when booting the game, well I cant help you..

Try pausing game and waiting that much time you took to 2k. If it feels laggy after that time your computer is infected with a afk bitcoin miner and for some reason game prevents that malware to spot you are using the mouse.

Interesting theories. The FPS drop happened on the first game unfortunately. Xentios that's a scary thought, but It feels somewhat unlikely though? As you see in my screenshots it was Mini Motorways which used most of the CPU and GPU and no other application used notable computer resources at this time. Not sure if malware can "hide" behind this application, seems overly complicated.

Got to almost 1600 points on Tokyo without any FPS drop (GPU usage 38%) after closing MSI Afterburner. Can't reliably confirm whether this was the solution though

*bump*

First time playing the game, reaching around 1,000 points, fps drops to 8 - 10 fps.
Tune down some settings (like Anti-Aliasing to none and reduce the resolution)
Play again, reaching around 1,000 points, same issue.

Reads about this forum.
"maybe is my anti-virus, i thought"

Closed the game to rest and restart my laptop.
Play the game again, about to reach 2,00 points, no fps drops. Amazed. Thanks.
