Yeah ... that's not how population numbers work, firstly in order to get an accurate view you need to avoid comparing a weekday with a weekend snapshot, as well as look at an average over time, a week at minimum but monthly is better.

20k is probably enough to sustain a game with a normal server setup. ... However New World is much more sensitive to population fluctuations because the population is spread out amongst multiple servers with much lower caps and a map that only plays well with 800-1200 peak players and a hard cap of 2k.


The biggest problem is that due to the territory ownership system the devs can't take the typical steps to stabilize the issues.

It's currently 61 on steamcharts and the population increased 10k in the past month only because of the season pass. Summer is coming. I wouldn't expect it to hold more than half its population by July.

This season was delayed with disappointing content ... but as long as tye next season isn't delayed I suspect the game will see another temporary player boost, which will get smaller and smaller each season as I doubt the season content is going to improve under an actual deadline.


As dumb as I think mounts are, that would bring a large temporary boost to player population as well.

Mounts may be a popular feature but they are difficult to do in a balanced manner and the map doesn't really support them in my opinion, but I can admit I'm in the minority on that.


Seasons and the FOMO p2w is actually going to be the slippery slope that finishes killing the game in my opinion ... in part because the team is simply too small to be able to release decent content on a deadline ... that plus I think the FOMO and p2w is going to get worse and thos isn't the first game I've played that was destroyed by these tactics.


Honestly what I think would be best is to completely overhaul the town ownership system so they can link the regional servers together, which in turn would make the natural population swings easier the deal with.

I must have missed something because I dont see it anywhere near top 10...

I think youre forgetting that even if it does pop at 25K that doesnt really mean that this game is living. Its not like they have 1 main server where all those 25K can interact with each other, hell they dont even have any cross-server functionality. They are split among many mini servers that are low pop or slowly dying off.

Just an example:
US East usually sits at peak 8K and can go as low to 2K...

We have 3 Fresh Start worlds where transfers in/out are a no go and it seems like AGS is too optimistic with their updates so they dont bother merging servers because they actually believe players want to come back to try out their new "content". If those 3 were combined then that newly merged server would feel alive at least momentarily.

Then we also have 4 Legacy/Fresh worlds that also dying off which could use a merge as in merge them all into one server.

I dont really care how many people play this game in total what I care about is how many people play in my region.

my server is always jam packed. no issues here. If the servers need a merge, they will merge it, like they have done before.
