EULA questions and answers
Hey, pathfinders!
We got a couple of questions regarding our EULA for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and the usage of mods, and we’ve prepared some answers.
Q: Have you recently changed your EULA?
A: No, we didn’t change it since launch. At some point after the release, we’ve made the EULA pop up during the first launch to make sure players don’t miss it, but it contains the same text that was there since the release.
Q: Does #2 forbid making/using mods?
A: Our EULA exists as a tool which helps us protect our intellectual property, that’s why it is worded in a way that allows us to defend our position at court should it come to that. Any allowance to change or modify the game’s code in EULA is basically a green light to piracy — it would make it harder for the developer to protect their copyright as it takes to review each case of modifying and prove malicious intent (i.e. cracking the game). However, we do love mods, and we appreciate our modding community, so when it comes to #2 what matters is the intent. If the game is being modified in a way that infringes on our intellectual property (like putting the whole game up for a download with a crack called a "mod"), the EULA allows us to take legal action against a person or a group of people who does that. The user mods are not the case — there is no need for us to take any legal action for tweaking the game mechanics to user's taste or adding some original user content. Once again: we believe that mods make games more fun for a lot of people, and we have no intention of fighting it, as long as the mod makers respect our copyrights.
Q: Can I play with mods?
A: Yes, you can play with mods.
Q. Do I have to email you at mod@owlcatgames.com and ask permission to make a mod?
A: If you have questions, you can always email us at mod@owlcatgames.com, or team@owlcatgames.com, or come to our discord (https://discord.gg/owlcat) and ask one of the community managers. If you just make small modifications for fun, however, it’s fine, and you don’t need our permission. If you have any other questions about the EULA, please don’t hesitate to ask our community managers. We are here for you! :)

MeanJim replied to EULA questions and answers October 4, 2022 @ 8:56:27 am PDTA firewall. Something you should already have if you are at all concerned about your privacy and what software on your PC can connect to the internet. You must not be too concerned with your privacy though, you're on Steam after all. How do I stop you from collecting my personal data, invading my privacy, and selling that data? Is a refund the only option here? https://store.steampowered.com/privacy_agreement

Lets Go Brandon! FJB replied to EULA questions and answers October 4, 2022 @ 1:20:56 pm PDTOh well, since I have steam, I should just keep giving it out to absolutely everyone then.... I should even pay companies to take my info, sell it, and do with it as they please, like this here. Im sure there will be zero future ramifications for doing so. And surely, those giving it out freely would never dream of demanding compensation for the sale of their data, both known and unknown..
If they would just warn on the store page, that they collect your information, this could be avoided. I am shocked that this is even a thing, let alone the amount of people today defending it.

I'm not defending it. You asked how to stop them from collecting data, and I answered you. I should have said; by it from GOG, and block it with a firewall. That's what I do.
How are you surprised by this? It's not like this is a new thing. Pick a random game you own and read its EULA. What surprises me is people complaining about it, while also being on Facebook, Twitter, other social media, etc, maybe even from their Android phone.

So I've done some digging into this and looks like it is ALREADY tracking "Kingmaker" even though I've seen [user] posts saying this isn't the case.
Anyway I'll cut to the chase, after researching Unity it seems "analytics" is built in, so ANY 'Unity' game is going to track you this way. If you modify the following file:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Owlcat Games\Pathfinder Wrath Of The Righteous\Unity\<GUID (find your own)\Analytics\config
(yes, the file is just config, no extension):
Below is MY file, note the "enabled:false" and/or "playter_opted_out":true) fields...
{"prefs":{},"analytics":{"enabled":false,"events":{"custom_event":{"max_event_per_hour":5000}}},"connect":{"limit_user_tracking":true,"player_opted_out":true,"enabled":false},"performance":{"enabled":false},"dynamic":{"coreBusinessMetrics":{"enabled":false,"timeToWaitForUserInfoS":60},"analytics":{"shouldCollectAutomation":false,"timeToWaitForUserInfoS":60}}}
*** note, you'll ALSO want to edit the KINGMAKER variant so that it's not tracking you, that file is here: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Owlcat Games\Pathfinder Kingmaker\Unity\<GUID (find your own)\Analytics\config
***
This should stop your analytics from being sent but doesn't do anything about what I've read where they have slipped in the verbage to 'install 3rd party apps' to your system... (unless "3rd party" is Unity stuff, which again is unfortunately part of the Unity platform).
Anyway, hope this is helpful to someone/anyone out there...

Selvokaz replied to EULA questions and answers October 28, 2022 @ 6:46:30 am PDTWhy wasn't Catechesis included in Hell Knight Signifier? It's crucially important to the strength of the Prestige Class, without it a divine caster entering it only weakens themselves.

I also am having the same thing-suddenly the EULA is popping up when it didn't before, but it gives that message instead of the EULA.

Muirchertach replied to EULA questions and answers November 16, 2022 @ 11:01:10 am PDTI see you getting a lot of questions about transparency in regards to section 3.1 in the forums that I haven't seen addressed:
DATA COLLECTION
"The User hereby agrees that Owlcat Games may collect, store for an INDEFINITE TERM and otherwise process anonymous information... Thereby, the User hereby agrees that Owlcat Games has the right to UPLOAD SOFTWARE PROGRAM FILES to User's Device, that will record CPU, RAM, operating system, video card, sound card, software and application of the other developers, peripherals, GEOLOCATION and any other anonymous technical and statistical information from User's computer. The User also agrees that Owlcat shall have the RIGHT TO TRANSFER the said anonymous information to its subcontractors, performing Game development, and vendors providing services necessary for operation of the Game."
Who specifically are you transferring the data to (subcontractors, game development and vendors is vague)? Why are you holding onto it for an indefinite term (most give the option to opt out or delete previously taken information)? How can data be anonymous while you track geolocation (seems like a contradiction)? Why are you loading mandatory tracking software onto computers for a single player game (again, should be optional)? Why is this mandatory to accept or else the game closes (it is a standalone, single player game, not an ongoing service we made an agreement on)?
If you've answered it elsewhere, fine, but since you pinned this maybe it could clarify for all the people unhappy with what the mandatory EULA entails.
