Could you provide more detail about when you're experiencing the lag? Is it persistent, or only in certain areas?

Also, could you provide a few more details about your system specs, specifically: Desktop Resolution, Refresh rate, vsync settings, what driver version you have installed.

A first thing to try will be ensuring that whilst you are playing the game, you are not running any other apps / programs in the background.

1) when the character(NPC) is on the screen : Low than 10
2) when the character is not on the screen : 10 ~ 40 (AVG Low than 20)

CPU and GPU usage is too low.(AVG 10~15%)
and suddenly rises sharply(40%)

Does overclocking the CPU have any effect???????

What settings are you playing on? When I put texture quality, shadows and foliage on high, it increased my framerate alot

Thanks for getting back to us! It sounds like either the game is competing for Graphics Card time, or something may have gone wrong during installation.

Here are a few more tasks I'd like you to try resolve this:

1st: Verify the integrity of Game Files in Steam, in case something got corrupted during installation.

* Open your Steam client, and then go to your game library
* Find The Forgotten City in your library list, right click it, then click Properties.
* Open the "Local Files" tab in the properties window.
* Click "Verify Integrity of game files..."
* Wait for the process to complete, then try playing again.

2nd: Ensure that you haven't set a framerate limit in your Nvidia Drivers.

* Open your Nvidia Control Panel (right click on you desktop, and click it in the shown options)
* Click the "Manage 3D Settings" option in the left panel.
* In the Global Settings list, ensure the "Max Frame Rate" option is set to either "Off", or your preference for a limit (usually 60 FPS or higher)
* Retry playing the game.

3rd: Make sure you have stopped _all_ unnecessary apps in your system tray, excluding Steam.

* It may also be helpful to temporarily pause or turn off your anti-virus while playing (be sure to turn it back on afterwards).

4th: Try playing the game on the lowest graphics settings.

* From the Main Menu, go to the Settings, the select Video.
* Find the slider for "Overall Quality", Change it to Low.
* Continue your game, observe if this makes a difference.
* If the framerate improves, try incrementally increasing quality and observing the difference.

I had exactly the same problem. I reinstalled the game on SSD (it was on normal HDD) and it is resolved now

Yes, such a SSD is very useful item in modern pc systems.

After changing to the 13th CPU and Win11, it works well.

Tried the game on a 4090 and a 13700k and apparently most developers today no longer know how to properly optimize their games.

In addition to the typical shader compilation stutter, the game suffers from frametimespikes when streaming new assets when the player reachers certain points of the level. This is pretty distracting

Why stuff like that is not done in a less intrusive way in the background really is beyond me. I mean, does this not bother the devs themselves? Are we at a point where this type of performance is simply viewed as good enough? I don't get it. Especially with a game like Forgotten City

Why even buy expensive hardware like that if the games stutter anyway?

Sadly i bought the game a while ago, otherwise i would have refunded it. I am really sick of pc gaming being a stutterfest. I was really looking forward to play this game as the concept seems great. But i just can't stand stutters in games.

At least precompile shaders during the first launch? I would gladly wait a couple of minutes for that to be finished. I mean, what is the alternative? Play the game twice?

I just got my first ending about 5 minutes ago (this game is fantastic btw, devs). The game ran very smoothly for me and was using about 40 - 60% gpu load for most of the play through. There were, however, certain events that would suddenly consume the entirety of my gpu getting as high as 99% - those events being when I was interviewing/questioning people. It never crashed or even caused any stuttering, but I happened to have Afterburner open and noticed it would suddenly hog gpu resources during those questionings. Hope this helps in narrowing it down.

gpu: rtx 3090 (drivers up to date)
ram: 64gb
ssd: PCIe 4.0

i never had any issues playing through this game. As long as the game runs smoothly, without stutter or artifacts, I won't even bother monitoring system usage or frame rates. Never underestimate the advantage of installing your games on an M.2 drive on the PCIe buss running at 4.0. Running these games on blindingly fast SSDs makes all the difference in the world.
