Why?
Put down some tall foundations before you start building your permanent base(to make it look as the base isn't hovering) and you'll find that there's no issues as long as the base modules are higher up than the top of the rocks.

Actually removing rocks or flattening bits of geography will require a rebuild of the game.

I prefer to build my living compartments directly on the planet's surface.
I'm sure there are others with the same opinion.

You can build on the surface, but you have to find the right spot. I think that is supposed to be part of the game... 8-)

Since you can recycle the materials, just practice building some things and tearing them down. It will not take long to get used to it.

Still think adding tools to level the terrain and remove annoying stones and boulders
that are in the way would add quality of life to the game.
