Alas, a full sandbox mode would involve rebuilding from the ground up BUT if you do want more flexibility in placement, head to Settings > Accessibility > Allow Items Anywhere!

not necessarily sandbox, but I personally would want more as well. More stories. More rooms to fill. Any plans to add new stories?

No current plans! To us, the game is a complete narrative—that's why we spent 3.5 years making it, as we didn't want to cut anything out we had planned!
