Didn't think I would like it...
I'm usually an action or strategy game junkie. I knew almost nothing about this game going in. But with Unpacking, it was like a treasure trove of a story that was unfolding. All the sound effects feel satisfying and I love micromanaging exactly where I want everything.
Even though I was exasperated with uncovering the CD player from the box and thinking it would be a better fit on the shelf where I put all the books, I still enjoyed the discovery of changing things to make everything fit.
My only criticisms would be for there to be at least some music or ambient sounds always playing. There was a period in the second part where the background music ends, and all that's left is the creepy silence. I actually got a little nervous while unpacking that this might be some kind of fake out horror game and that I'd uncover a severed head or something. My other point is that I would love for more things to be interactable. I was just moving things around when I discovered you could play music from both players on right-click! (Now if only you could right-click on cassette or cds to pick the track you like!). More hidden right-click interactions would be a delight for players I think.
Also, hopefully in the full game we can unpack multiple people's lives, not just this person's.
