The first time I booted the game and completed the 1997, I closed, rebooted a few hours later to continue and noticed there was no save file. It was odd. I thought I had to save manually.

I completed 1997 and moved to 2004, closed the game and returned a few hours later, and my save file doesn't exist. This has happened 3 times.

I am adamant now that I am (thankfully) not going crazy. I want to play and enjoy this :(

Strange! And you're closing the normal way, i.e. through the menu? (presumably so, just checking!) We'll dig into this...!

Absolutely!

One temporary fix I discovered is to uninstall and reinstall the game and then it is able to find the savefile. If you quit the game and reboot without uninstalling and reinstalling, the save file may not exist. Whether it gets deleted, I do not know.
