Hello and thank you for reading this. Anywhoo in text and in a normal nonvr game I have no real trouble talking to people. However since I am representing myself with an avatar and my actual arm and head movements it's a little unnerving as I have some social anxiety.

So here I am to ask is there any tips or ways to go about finding people to talk to or do I just walk up on people and hope for the best?

This is from my previous play sessions about a year ago. But the best thing I've found in terms of talking to people and stuff is to try some of the game worlds. It seems to be a bit easier to talk to others when your in the middle of a game.

My tip is to just go sit near a group of people who are talking and chime in if you feel comfortable talking.

Or you can even find people like me who will say hi to ya and ask how yer doing and ye can reply with a thumbs up.

A lot of us don't mind you near us even if you don't talk.-

Worst idea ever. They will tell you to go away so that they can continue private conversations with their friends in a public world in peace. How dare you think of going up to people you don't know in a public world? That is just creepy!

That's when you move to another group.

That's always a risk you take and honestly those people are idiots for being in a public lobby talking about private stuff.

Which in this scenario you should not feel offended cause they are the dumbasses.

Every other suggestion is far worse since you are trying to talk to people, not hide yourself to try and talk to them.

That is by far the most common approach and works pretty well.
And if you feel comfortable enough with the people around you can try chiming in on the conversation if it should hit one of your interests. Alternatively you can just move on to another group.

There are a lot of people just running around mute until they feel comfortable.

I recommend starting at Furhub even if you aren't a furry.
There's tons of chill people there.

i feel your pain op as i also have really bad social anxiety but yea just going around worlds you will eventually run into some chill ppl

Developing a personality and being humorous is probably ideal.

Honestly I hate social interactions but it's not as bad. Yeah some people might dig into y'ah but you just gotta' accept that there's many, many types of people on VRChat. You'll get those people that will add you the moment they start talking to you, and those that you'll just get yelled at by because you interrupted their conversation. It's best in my opinion to just try to find the people that are vibing with a situation. Walk up to a crowd that's watching someone do a joke, let someone show you stuff (Careful of crashes tho, get test dummies to activate someone's avatar if you truly don't trust them. If they don't explain what their plan is or they do it so badly that you can't really discern what they're gonna' do, just don't do it unless they're your friend). Just vibe with situations and dip out of the toxic ones. All in all, those who make you truly uncomfortable can be erased by blocking them. Try not to just block everyone though, some might be joking and aren't aware of anyone's state, be it epilepsy, weak hearts, etc., so you have to try to ascertain their mindset and intentions. Like one person said above, chime in on conversations if you have built up the courage to do so. Opinions are generally well received on here, despite what you might think.

I've found that more often than not, I feel more comfortable going up to people and talking to them when I'm with a good friend trying to do the same.
